Hello All
Please advise if you can, as I’m concerned for my sister, diagnosed with secondary triple neg last June, nodule on lung, small mets on liver. Lumpectomy and Lymph removals, capcetabine not worked some small growth now in liver and lung. Surgeon said there was nothing else in the arsenal, but Oncologist says there are other options.
Intovenus Chemo now of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. I believe this current Chemo begins with V but didn’t catch the name of it. Does anyone know what it could be?? It is supposed to have no hair loss which I really hope is the case as she has just got a few inches now finally.
If anyone has anything positive they push my way I’d be soooo gratefull.
My sister has been so very strong through this journey so far, but I’m beginning to lose my calm. That may sound so incredibaly selfish for which I can only apologise, its just that I love her so very much and can’t imagine the unimaginable. I’m God mother to her beautiful children who are 18 and 21 and want to continue to be as much support as I can be under the circumstances. Silver970
Possibly the drug could be Vinorelbine? Its the only one I can think of beginning with V. I can’t give any advice on it as I have not had it, but others may be along in a moment with comments.
wishing all the best to you and your sister, I hope they find some drugs that work for her.

Hi Sarah
Capcetabine did not work for either (I’m ++) and I’m now on Vinorelbine - not loosing my hair but feeling very weak and queasy - keeping up hopes like you are for your sister. I’m have Vinorelbine by tablets - it’s also possible to have it by IV but my veins are not good after FEC and TAX… - my Onc did say that IV was slightly more effective but had the disadvantage of having to go into hospital for it. I’m having it on days 1 and 8 in a 21 day cycle.
Best wishes
Thank you Sarah and Frances for your replies.
I appreciate your help and hope all the best for you both and everyone on here. Silver
Hi Sarah,
Like Frances I also had capecitabine but could not tolerate it, neither did it work for me. This was very apparent by the 3rd cycle and they stopped it then and put me on Vinorelbine (sometimes known as Navelbine). I struggled with it at first but they reduced the dosage by 25% and I was fine on that. When I had the chemo, the tablet form wasn’t around. The intravenous form can be harsh on the veins and they do have to be very careful because of that. Usually by wrapping a warming pad round the arm whilst it is administered. Also it is a good idea for your sister to drink plenty of fluid prior to starting the infusion and being sure to tell the nurse if she has any discomfort or burning sensation in the vein. Do remember that if she is being told too often that there isn’t anything left in the arsenal she can always seek a 2nd opinion. There are often trials as well that can be discussed. Many of us here have been living with secondaries for quite a few years now. Myself I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990, and 2ndaries in 2002. It’s lovely that you are so supportive for your sister.

HI Sarah
I have had Vinorelbine in combination with Capecitabine and didn’t lose my hair. My treatment was tablet form, as my veins are not good, and it has worked for me. I am now on Capecitabine alone and waiting to see if it is still working.
I felt relatively okay on the combination of drugs, apart from some tiredness and sore feet. I have no idea about the IV version.
Good luck. Sue x
Susie thank you. I hope the Capcetabine is still working for you and that you find that out soon. X
Dawn thank you also for your hugely positive response,Its quite difficult without the knowledge from people like yourself and others on this forum and site not see cancer as a death sentence, and think in negative ways.
I’m grateful and lifted by you all. I have mentioned this site to my sister, although she is remarkably just getting on with every day life, be it with a humurously direct attitude which has shocked a few people of course and boy have we laughed and danced so much.
Anyhoo its great to know your all here if she ever wants to chat.
Much Love
Silver
