I’m part way through my second cycle (of 8) of capecitabine and have started to develop hand foot syndrome. My hands so far are manageable with frequent moisturising but it’s my feet I’m struggling with. They have a burning sensation when I stand or walk and are developing thick yellow very painful callouses on the balls of my feet near the toes and on the backs of my heels.
Does anyone have any tips that they found worked? Tia
Hi @mumsy I’m so sorry to hear about the side effects you’re experiencing with capecitabine.
We have more information about side effects on our website (although you may already be well aware of these!) Capecitabine (Xeloda) | Breast Cancer Now. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our specialist nurses to help support you with these side effects.
You can get in touch with them here on the forum on the Ask our Nurses your questions board or on our helpline 0808 800 6000 which is open Monday to Friday 9am-4pm and 9am-1pm Saturday.
Me too. Just started my first cycle of cape. Hands fine but my feet are burning. I’m using udderly smooth moisturising cream, but wondering if there’s some sort of cooling insole on the market?
Hey. I ended up in such pain that I contacted the helpline and eventually my oncologist reduced the dose. The remainder of my 8 cycles was tough only towards the end, but much more manageable.
I’m not sure about cooling insoles but I found cold socks really helpful. Something like this
If you are really struggling do get in touch with your team. A slight tweak to the dose may be possible.
Also just to reassure you. I finished my vape in December and my feet are pretty much back to normal
