Capecitabine when to take

Just started capecitabibe today. Have to take after meals but 12 hours apart. Took first dose at 9 this morning and just had my dinner at 6 but if I take it at 7 pm then it will be 14+ hours before my next dose tomorrow morning. I really don’t want to start setting alarms for my day off to get up early to take the tablets. Would a gap of 9 hours during the day and 15 hours at night be ok? What do people do? Is a couple of crackers enough to call a meal if I leave taking it until 9pm?

I was on capcitabine for seven years! I had 130 courses. I worked out that taking it at 8am and 8pm worked best for me as I would have my breakfast (and other meds) at a reasonable time in the morning then I would have a small pudding after taking the 8pm pills. It is very important to take the pills 12 hours apart, so work out what time suits you best. I started on 1800mgs a day, but my head hurt so much I was reduced to 1500mgs. I used metaclopromide to help with the side effects as I could take it three times a day if needed. Capcitabine really worked for me - until it didn’t and last year I had to stop it and go on other meds. Now I have secondary in my liver and bowel cancer! So stick with capcitabine if you can is my suggestion.

Hi. I started capecitabene 4 weeks ago. My onc-nurse said to not worry about taking it 12-hours apart and just be sure to take it with my first and last meals. Reading the post from the fellow cancer warrior who was on cape for several years with success is making me wonder if I should strive for the 12-hour interval. I am definitely not going to risk good sleep-will not stay up late or get up early just to take the pills. But perhaps I will try to eat later. Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone! I find hope everytime I visit this forum.

Hi, it’s so good to read that Capecitabine worked for so long. I’m due to start it next week, because Ribociclib stopped working for me after only 3 months! I’m so devastated and scared. Google says it works for 4-9 months! I’m scared I’m running out of options already and I can’t stop crying. My youngest is only 6 years old.
