Hi, after six hellish weeks I have just been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. I am being offered capecitabine this time round, having had FEC four and half years ago and no problems in the interim. Can anyone please give me some info on this chemo which I am due to start in three weeks time. Margaret
Hi Margaret,
There is a whole thread on this chemo, I will try and post the link:

Hope it’s helpful, there are lots of posts x
Hi margit
Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums, I hope you find them a good source of support.
You may find it helpful to have a read of the BCC capecitabine fact sheet. It has information on what Xeloda is, how it works and the possible side effects. If you would like a copy just follow this link:-
Best wishes

Hi Margaret, I was on Capecitabine last year and it really worked for me. I had bone secondaries diagnosed 11 years ago. I was on this drug before too, around 18 months before that. They stopped it because I was unfortunate to develop sore hands and feet but this does not seem to happen to everyone. I do not know what else I can tell you except this chemo is very do-able copmpared to other chemo regimes. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me or get back to me on this thread. I am sorry you have had this recent diagnosis but there are many of us on here who have had bone mets for a long time. If you want any support you have come to the right place. Best wishes and hope the chemo works for you too. Love Val
Hi all
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. Family and friends are brilliant but there is no substitute for people in the same boat. I really had a bad time with my FEC very nearly giving up after cycle four - I can’t imagine how I would have felt now had I done this especially with it coming back. I would have had a very hard time living with that one!!!
