carboplatin and docertaxol fab results

please excuse my spellings ha. i was diagnosed nov 09 with secondaries in the lungs and lymph nodes. went on xeloda for 3 month that didnt work so had to have lungs drained twice which was worse than giving birth believe me. Then i was put on carboplatin and docertaxol. Had a ct scan after 3 month and results showed it was working. Had another ct last week now i have completed the 6 months of chemo and the oncologist said she not seen results as good for a very long time. All the tumours have vanished and theres no sign of any cancer anywhere. I double checked that the doc had the right results for the right patient ha i was in shock, i usually get bad news everytime i go.I know it can come back when it feels like it but it feels like a weight as been lifted off me.Good luck to everyone out there and dont ever give up hope. love to u all pink 1x

Thanks to everyone who’s replied. i am new to this as you have probably guessed ha.sandra i hope it works the same for you.If its any help i chose to have mine weekly and i didnt get many side affects. I could carry on my day to day routine and with 3 kids its hectic. i had ec chemo 2 yr ago and had it 3 weekly and was really ill on it.let me no how u go on, keep in touch pink 1.

Brilliant news pink! So pleased for you
I am looking into carboplatin as my next chemo followin local recurrence. I’ve read it can be very good for triple negative bc. Did u have it weekly or just the tax? Also can I ask if u lost your hair? Great to hear that the side effects are manageable- hope you continue to feel great+ have fab results.
Good luck

Thanks for sharing… Really pleased for you. Long may you stay NED! Are you triple negative as well?

Hi Pink,
Did you request having weekly treatments or was it offered to you? I’m starting carboplatin next Fri.I had taxotere recently, 3 weekly and found it hard going.
I’m also interested as to whether you are triple neg?
I really, really, agree with your comment about chest drain!! I was supposed to have another one on Thursday, but because there wasn’t a bed available I was given the option of not having it done and that was the option I took!! I’m hoping the chemo will help the fluid disappear, meaning the drain wont be necessary…I’m such a coward!!!

Have a great weekend, Sandra x

hi everyone that replied thankyou. Yes i am triple negative. I was diagnosed 2 yr ago with inflamatory bc and was told it was very aggressive. The docertaxol and carboplatin was given weekly which i asked for because i was fed up of feeling ill on the other chemos i had which were 3 weekly. The nurse told me its such alot of treatment to have in 1 go so on weekly the side affects would be more managable. she was right. I felt tired and felt sick for 2 days but was still able to take the kids to school and cook a meal. Far better than when i was on EC chemo and couldnt move out of the chair for 10 days out of 21.I did loose my hair but didnt go bald it looked like a shaved head ( my husband said i look like a baboon ha)we have had to laugh our way through it all n without it i think we would have just fallen apart. You have to stay so strong when you have kids n keep day to day routine as normal as possible. I will get the hang of this one day ha can you reply to people privately? I send good luck and love to you all takecare n keep ur chin up pink 1x

That is such great news Pink and truly inspiring. I am so pleased for you and it gives us all such a buzz to her of such successful intervention.

Thanks for sharing and good luck.

So good to hear good news about triple negative! Doesn’t seem to be much of that about! Thank you for giving me hope xxx

Thats great news Pink, so pleased to hear some good triple negative news. I have just started on carboplatin/gemcitabine last Monday, currently feel like a brick wall has landed on top of me. Go back for a top up tomorrow. Like you I have lung, lymph mets and have only recently been ‘released’ from hospital as I had blood clots in the lung and pneumonia. I had my pleura drained last Friday and as you say it was something else, Im sure someone told me it was an easy procedure, perhaps I dreamt that bit! Long may your current status continue Pink

Hi Debs, Good to see you posting! Sorry to read of your hospital stay, are you fully recovered from the pneumonia & blood clots?
I see you are also having weekly treatments, was this offered to you,or did you ask for it? I’m starting carboplatin on Fri and I’m going to ask about the weekly rather than three weekly regime.Hope todays treatment is as good as it can be,keep in touch…

Hi Sandra

Have just noticed the message you sent me yonks ago and just sent you message. Hopefully the clots have dispersed now, I wont be flying again thats for sure. Im on these clexane injections everyday, apparently they cant give you Warfarin if you are having or planning chemo. They have made things better along with the fluid removal, can actually get upstairs without flagging out at the top - we’ve only got 9 stairs! Have had the second dose of chemo today, went okay and have eaten everything edible in the house since I got back, not sure if thats a good or bad sign, sure I’ll find out later! As my regime is carbo/gemcitabine, its only gemcitabine I have on day 8, a little top up then have both drugs again on day 21. I have heard a lot of ladies say the weekly regime works better for them so def worth asking. Would you have a line fitted in that case or are your veins okay? Mine are shocking and had picc line last time round. They are fitting a hick line on 12th Oct so I can have treatment and blood taken thru it. Feel very confident about carboplatin and pray to God it works for us all. Congrats on the birth of Lily by the way, hope Mum & Baby are doing well - and Dad of course.
Hope all you other ladies are doing well too and enjoying the unexpected lovely weather. Debs x
