Change from Docetaxal to Paclitaxol

Hi all just had my oncologist appt and following a week of feeling fatigued and bad joint pain, perhaps a bit of neuropathy in my feet from my 1st round of Doce they have suggested I move to Pacli weekly - I’m struggling with this emotionally but also worried that perhaps the neuropathy and fatigue etc will get worse with the next rounds of doce - can anyone share their experiences to help me unpack this a bit - thank you

Hi, on my 4th session i had docetaxel and it totally floored me, every bone and muscle was in agony. The bones in my feet felt like i was walking on golf balls and i couldn’t breath right. Also the chemo totally damaged all my skin around my genital area. Like bad nappy rash skin falling off and stinging. I had to get sudacrem to help with the pain and broken skin. I saw oncology and they took me off docetaxel and said it was too strong for me in a 3weekly dose and put me on weekly paclitaxel. Although a little better it was still bad. My last session was to be through to Jan, but they called a halt on 23rd December they said i had had enough.
On the 5th of January i was admitted to hospital with breathing ptoblems.
As it turns out i now have CIPF chemo induced pulminary fibrosis.
I will have it for ever now.
I was put on high dose steroids to get it under control.
In saying this happened to me, i saw other women get the same treatment and absolutley ok with it.
I think your own body will tell you if it suits you or not.
I hope all goes well for you. Best wishes

Thank you and I hope you are starting to heal. It’s really helpful and it similar to what the chemo nurses have said - whilst the Docetaxal floored me and the pacli may be easier they can’t say it will be. My gut and head is saying you’ve coped and only have 2 more so go for it - it’s so confusing - I have another meeting with the team n Monday so will update - again thank you

Hi, I’m sorry to hear you are struggling.

I breezed through first 3 rounds (FEC) but on the 4th, Docetaxal it completely floored me. I had never experienced joint pain like it but the 5th and 6th were ok. Go with what you can put up and use the pain relief when you need it. I’m now 5 years on and unfortunately still struggle with joint pain…yes, golf balls on your feet!
