Hi, I was diagnosed with DCIS in july24, had lumpectomy Aug24, margins not clear and much bigger area of non calcified (invisible to US/mammogram) DCIS found therefore mastectomy recommended. I found the decision on reconstruction and whether to have implant or Diep horrendous, it wasn’t helped by not being able to see women of a similar breast size who had Diep (34b). I went with implant as that’s what consultant recommended. Lots of complications following surgery, extreme repeated cording in arm, chest, side, hand for 8 months, Seromas and transient lymphoedema.
The implant is a teardrop and it is very rippled, feels and looks like a soft raisin under my skin. The size and shape are good but it is very uncomfortable and feels like it is rubbing against my flesh, emotionally draining as constant discomfort.
I’ve been waiting now for 6 months for lipofil ling to see if that helps but the longer I’m waiting the more it’s rubbing to the point I’m now considering removing implant and going for Diep, in the hope of a more natural look and feel without constant discomfort but I’m frightened of the Diep surgery, being cut in stomach too and the unknown of will it be better?
Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice to help make decision as I’m demented going round in circles
