Hi
i have invasive ductal grade 3 with 2/10 nodes affected. Have had a mastectomy and clearance of nodes in right breast. Have undergone 4 cycles of FEC. Was admitted to hospital after a blackout episode. After subsequent tests now have weakness to my heart. Mild murmur with small leakage. Just seen oncologist (4th different one so far - that’s another story in itself) and told am now coming off FEC and onto 2 cycles of Docetaxel due to possible long term effects on heart. Has this happened to anyone else. Any tips etc would be much appreciated X
Hi, I had FEC-T last year, which was 3 cycles of FEC and three of Docetaxel, so I think it is quite normal to have both even if that was not the plan to start with.
The oncologist told me that I had a slight heart murmur and that this was quite common in women and nothing to worry about. I don’t think that the heart murmur is caused by chemo but the FEC can cause damage to your heart. Another lady on my chemo thread had her heart damaged by the chemo she was on, but after she had finished the treatment her heart slowly recovered.
As they have changed your treatment to avoid further damage I would think that you will recover over time. At least you only have two more to go now! Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

It might be worth you ringing the help line and asking if you could be paired up on the ‘Someone like me’ so you can talk to another person who has a similar diagnosis to you and the same treatment regime. I was give a different regime and wasn’t able to find anyone that was on the same but hoping to talk with someone who has been through something similar.
Hope this helps x
