Changing dressings ?

I had a central quadrantectomy with Grisotti flap on Thursday, I received a hospital appt today for 23rd November, does that mean I have to change the dressings myself ? I’m not sure I can do that xx

Hi Diane
You should be able to contact either your BCN or the district nursing team. Initially dressIngs need to be changed in a sterile manner.

Hi Diane,
Poor you. Do you have a nurse at the hospital that you can telephone to ask? If not, I would phone your GP surgery and explain the situation to them. You definitely shouldn’t be left to remove your own dressings, it’s a big thing and you definitely need support.
I hope that you are okay and that you are beginning to feel human again. Take it easy, look after yourself, but definitely contact the hospital. You should not have been left on your own with this.
Let us know how you get on x

Hi Diane, I had a similar op to you on 29th Oct.  I didnt touch the dressings and they were removed this Wednesday after 10 days steri strips and all and now I have nothing and it will be 2 weeks post op on Monday.  I personally wouldnt touch them for 2 weeks unless they need it and then get the nurses at your GP surgery to remove them.  I was panicking about changing them but I didnt need to but I know the GP practice would have helped if I needed them.   Certainly dont do it yourself.  Good luck x

Thank you for your reply’s I will leave the dressings unless they need changing, then ill ring my BC nurse.  It’s all a bit stressful isn’t it ? xx
