Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone who had had their breast cancer treatment through private health care had switched providers and was still covered for breast cancer? I had health insurance through my work at the time of my primary diagnosis and whilst I’ve completed active treatment I have ongoing hormone therapy and regular follow-up appointments. I might be leaving my job and so my healthcare through my company would end.
For anyone who transferred into the NHS, did you manage to keep the same oncologist? I am happy with mine and thinking of changing to someone I don’t know makes me anxious.
Thanks for replying!
I will ask my oncologist at my next appointment. He works for the NHS but at a different hospital, it’s not that local to me but I would go there if I knew I would be under his care.
Hi , I had my treatment through BUPA but I was diagnosed on NHS in March this year and had same surgeon as I would have on NHS.
I see him again in April for 12 month check but he’s told me I can go back to NHS anytime .
I’m taking Anastrazole but I haven’t seen an oncologist since radiotherapy .
I think if you go back to NHS , you contact a breast care nurse , rather than doctors .
Can you ask ? If you google the oncologist , their profile usually says if they do NHS too . Some don’t but most do.
My BUPA is my husbands policy but he is retiring soon , so if I stay private , it will be self funded .
Thanks for your reply. My surgeon does NHS too but at a different hospital from my oncologist. I suppose I’d need to choose one of the hospitals - will need to do some digging.
I know I’ll find it hard switching to a completely new team at this stage, as whilst I’m now out of active treatment I know my breast care nurses and consultants quite well by now and they act like a bit of a safety net for me.
I am thinking of changing anyway . I think my surgeon is a good surgeon but not good on follow up . I never had a breast care nurse , as it was a small hospital .
