Hi,can anyone who has had a DIEP reconstruction please tell me if you put weight on or lose weight does the reconstructed breast alter in size like a normal breast would. My PS has recommended this op as my delayed reconstruction, and if my weight changes so does my cup size, thank you.sue
Hi minime,
I saw my lovely PS yesterday regarding further surgery to my unaffected breast. Unfortunately as I am having major problems with my back - also looking at spinal surgery, he has put “on hold” my surgery until my back is sorted. He informed me, as I am losing weight, that my diep recon would probably change more with my weight loss than my reduced unaffected breast. This was after intense questioning on how my body reacted to weight gain and loss during “my healthy years”. As I always tended to lose from my tummy and bum during these episodes, he feels my recon will change more to reflect the changes in weight. He therefore wants me to wait until after my spinal surgery and when my weight has been stable for a while before proceeding. Needless to say I was disappointed, but common sense prevails and now I can’t wait for next year!!!
Hope this helps,
Maggie
Hi Maggie, thank you for your reply,I guess it will change then to a certain extent. I do hope things get sorted with your back and you can move forward.
Many thanks,sue
It was interesting to read this, as it is one of the questions I have for my plastic surgeon on monday. I am hoping for a DIEP, and have recently lost 2 stone, with a further 3 to go. I don’t want to lose too much belly fat before the op, but also, don’t want fluctuating and uneven boobs if I continue to lose weight afterwards! It will be interesting to hear what he has to say.
hi
I have discussed this with my ps and he reliably informs me that it will go up and down with normal weight changes as it contains belly fat - this is an advantage over the silicone implants as they ar unable to do this and may require further surgical intervention if weght is lost or gained
hope this helps x
