Chemo and covid

Hi.

My apologies if I’ve posted in wrong place.

I’ve had my 2nd cycle of EC chemo 14 days ago.

I was admitted to hosp with bowel problems and unfortunately contracted covid .

I was advised of this the day after I returned home.

I’m doing ok 3 days in.

Headache. Aches and pains

But team are happy I manage from home .

Has anyone else been diagnosed covid positive whilst undergoing chemo.

I’m really so worried

Thank u so much

Hi

I just wanted to say how shocked and sorry I am at what’s happened to you. I struggled with EC but obviously this was pre-pandemic. Although you say you’re really worried, you sound quite calm in the way you’re managing things. I can’t answer your question but I didn’t want to ignore you.

I wonder if the hospital thinks you’re better off at home? Obviously you would be readmitted if you developed worse problems but most cases of Covid are generally mild (we only hear of the worst outcomes) and I truly do not believe your MDT would put you at any risk. You are in week 3 of your EC cycle and your white blood cells should be active again by now so you’ll be fighting infection almost normally.

I’d say trust your team, remember that people are affected in very different ways by covid and keep monitoring your temperature. If it hits 37.5 or whatever your hospital has specified, get onto them immediately.

I hope it works its course gently and mildly - you deserve a bit of good luck. Have they said how they’ll administer round 3?

Best wishes xx

I was diagnosed with ER+ HER2+ BC back in September. Chemo first before surgery. 4 rounds of EC completed and done 2 of T (Docetaxel). 2 rounds left to do. Have felt utterly grim through each round.

I had chemo on 14/12. By 21/12 I had a raised temp. Went to A&E for sepsis checks but all fine and sent home. By 24/12 temp was still raised so back to A&E early hours of Christmas Day. Sent home again. Felt flu-ey by the evening. Cough didn’t really come until 2 days later. Confirmed Covid positive on 28/12. Felt horrendous and was unable to get out of bed. Covid went to my gut so I also had horrid sickness and diarrhoea. Seemed to get me in the week my immunity was lowest post chemo.

I bought one of the finger oxygen monitors online. My oxygen levels dropped to 87/88 but I could still breath so in conjunction with my GP agreed I was better off managing at home.

I was pretty poorly for the whole of Christmas and the new year. My chemo was pushed back 1 week but despite still wheezing and struggling to walk very far, my bloods were fine and I had my next chemo on 14/01.

The chemo/Covid/chemo combo probably put me in bed for the best part of 5 weeks. It has been pretty tough but I am on the mend. Each day I get a bit better.

So take care of yourself and try not to worry. Be sensible with your Covid symptoms and contact your BC care team or GP for advice.

Always here if you want to reach out.
