Chemo and hearing loss

Hi,

I’m looking to find out how high the risk of hearing loss whith chemo.
I have hearing loss and can’t afford any more. Had 1 chemo session EC and tinitus is worse already.

So I hope to gather as much data as possible on how many women experience hearing loss from chemo and from which drugs.
Also feel free to share if you have no hearing loss and which chemo you were on,
No need to share on tinitus as there is already a threat going on that.

Thank you!

I had 3 EC and 3 Docetaxel. I have a degree of hearing loss, particularly in the higher register, and have worn hearing aids for a year. I have had tinnitus for years, which is improved when I have the hearing aids in. I didn’t notice any hearing loss or increase in tinnitus when on chemo or afterwards. Its now about 7-8 months since I finished chemo amd my hearing is just the same as it was before.

Hello,

I don’t have hearing loss as such but EC in particular gave me a lot of ear trouble. (I felt like I was under water a lot of the time and that my ears needed to pop) - I found it really difficult. I fed this back to the oncologist & they said it was unusual.

I’ve had this slightly less with docetaxel.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have hearing loss in the human voice range and wear dual hearing aids as required.
I also have secondary BC and have been on oral chemo - Capecitabine- since September 9 months and not noticed and change in my hearing or tinnitus. Ditto for targeted treatment - Ribociclib - for a year before that.
Will follow replies as IV chemo will be at my door next

I’ve just had cycle 2 of EC chemotherapy. One ear doesn’t feel right. It’s as if there is pressure in the ear like you get when flying. The sound is a bit muffled. I had my ears checked for wax and they are clear. No sign of infection. The hearing test centre I went to suggested having a pressure check.
