I had mine at home. I think it was more relaxing as I played relaxation and visualisation CDs and sat in my own choice of chair. I didn’t have any chemo in hospital so can’t compare it, but I was glad that I had mine at home. I will also be having herceptin at home.
All the best

Hi Lisa,
I am due FEC no: 5 today and Yes I have it at home thanks to the Homecare Team from Stafford Hospital! They are great, there is no hanging around no waiting nothing! If They are running late the nurse will call you and hey another cup of tea and watch your fav tv programme. I feel personally more relaxed in my own environment and it means my OH can be with me as it fits in around his shifts. The nurse also comes out the day before to take bloods then will call you on an evening to ensure that all is ok. The ladies on the chemo ward are also fantastic but they are so over stretched and there is a lot of waiting around and I am not a patient person! I can not fault chemo at home! After today ther is just one more to go for me then op then Herceptin which I was hoping to also get at home??
Anyway It all depends on the individual! but I can honestly say it is the right choice for me…
Hope all goes well

I would love to have my chemo at home, would make things much easier really, especially with the children. But we don’t have the choice, so have to traipse to the hospital. I would say definitely go for it.

I was given the option of this and chose to go to the hospital. I was advised by someone who had finished her chemo who said that home was the one place to escape BC,
I have now finished 8 sessions of chemo and feel it was right for me not to have it at home. I was glad to come away from the hospital and not associate home with needles, etc.
Choose what feels right for you and good luck with your treatment.
Cheers

Oh, given the choice I’d choose home any day. Not only because of the 11 hours out of the house either. At home you can snooze if you want, put your feet up, read a book, have something you enjoy drinking. You also would get to know the nurses better. Mostly, you will be you. Not just ‘another’ patient in for chemo. The joy of chemo just taking the three hours - sigh.
Hello all
I think it is fantastic that there are NHS trusts who offer chemo at home. I have mine at Cheltenham Hospital. Go in at around 10am for bloods, see dr around mid day and have chemo around 6-7pm, usually home around 9pm. It is such a long day, there are lots of very poorly people there, it is a very stressful experience. Although I do go out and have lunch then return to the centre later in the day. I think having it at home must be much more relaxing. Still only one more to go next week then start radio, I don’t suppose that’s quite as safe to have at home! Good luck to you all.

Hi all
I have just completed FEC 5 and have had all my chemos at home with healthcare at home. It has been excellent, a friend sent me a set of DVDs to watch while relaxing having chemo, as I had a DVD player, but owned no DVDs prior to Dx. I have now worked my way through 5 of them on chemo days. I must admit on some days I have had to watch the DVD 3 or 4 times to get the whole picture, as my concentration is so poor.
I would recommend chemo at home if you get the chance.
Best wishes
