Chemo choices?

Hi, I’m 38 years old had Grade 3 stage 1 with a mix of DICS. I had a lumpectomy on Oct 21st with 5 nodes removed which have come back clear. I’ve been offered Chemo and need to decide whether to have this or not. I opted to go privately and my oncologist is doing a test that is only done in America for private patients to see how much chemo will help you - has any one else had this test done and did it help you? Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi sarah

I had a lumpectomy in february. I also had a Grade3 stage 1 DCIS. i had 6 lymph nodes removed which thankfully were all clear. i also like you had to make the choice whether to have chemo or not, I was told my chances would only go up by about 2% but I decided that it was worth giving it a go.

I had 6 months FEC chemo then 24 radiotherapy sessions which finished at the end of September. I was at the hospital yesterday and was told I don’t need to see the oncologist for 2 years, although I will have my annual mammogram and appointment with my surgeon. It was such a relief to hear this news.

It is a difficult decision to make and everybody is different, also I am 52 so a lot older than you. Hope this has been of some help to you, the road is not easy with chemo but as you can see from this forum we have all been there and done it. If I can help you in any other way please let me know.

Hi, there is a thread on the oncotypedx test! It is not a test offered by the NHS but can be done privately. X

Hi Sarah,

sorry that you you have joined the ‘club’.
I just had a thought, private care is fine & I am in no position to knock care, however, please check that your private onc has the backing of the mulit-disciplinary team, ie surgeons, radiologists BCN, pharmacits etc… this is esential to ensure that you receive the Gold Standard care.

all the very best
