Hi,
Just a quick post to be of help re chemo curls. I have always had fairly wayward, thick hair but I’m sure my hair is curlier than ever. I am currently keeping it very short as it only grows outward! I had tried straightening it with my ordinary straighteners but as it was so short I managed to burn my scalp and not really straighten my hair. My hairdresser recommended micro straighteners and I haven’t looked back. Mine were from a company called Cloud Nine but I’m sure there are other makes. They are really tiny, about the width of a chubby pencil but you can get in really close to your head. Thought I’d pass this on as for some people I know the chemo curls feel very unmanageable.

Hi
I had very thick wavy hair pre chemo & it has returned with waves in all the same places plus some really annoying curls at the ends. the cloud nine mini straightners have been my saviour. My GHD’s were just too thick & hard to use, the mini straighteners sort my wayward hair in no time. My hair goes from obvious post chemo hair to a normal short cut when straightened to such an extent that I have received lots of complements on my short cut ( from people who didn’t) know I’d had chemo.
Anything that helps you feel ‘normal’ post chemo has to be good.

Thanks girls - have just ordered some micro straighteners for my short and curlies (The ones on my head odd course!!) em xxx
Ladies, I bought some babyliss micro straighteners and they’re fab, they were on offer when I bought mine a few weeks ago, only £10 in Debenhams and Superdrug, I’d be lost without them.
As I was so pleased about my straighteners, I emailed Cloud nine to say how good they were. They emailed back saying anyone can have 10% off if use discount code Facebook. I don’t have any connection to the company but thought I’d pass this on. I’m sure other makes, possibly quite a bit cheaper, do the same job. It was the smallness ( is that a word? ) that I wanted to highlight.

Hi, thankyou for this post.I have found it useful. My hair is driving me crazy at the moment, I can’t do a thing with it. I’ve tried alsorts. I’ve bought straightening products, expensive shampoos and conditioners and nothing works.I even try to blow dry it straight but it doesnt work. i have to be honest, i get really angry with my hair. I haven’t got curls but just horrible waves. My hair looks like a mushroom head…lol. I have been using my GHD’s to straighten it but mine are just too big for my hair. I will buy some these micro straighteners. I am persevering with my hair and i want to grow it long again.

Im just looking on the cloud nine website, are they called micro irons?..x
KB, I finished chemo mid July 2012 and my hair is very wavy and like you said, a mushroom head, however, over the last month I have been able to dry it straight, I expect just a couple of extra millimetres in length make all the difference, stick with it, you’ll be there soon x
Thanks Chascat, my hair isabout the length it is on my profile pic… It will get better the longer it gets i guess and the waves drop the longer the hair is. its just a matter of being patient. I will not have it cut short because its then defeating the object of growing it. XXX
Hi KB they are the micro irons, they are so tiny but just as effective as GHD’s. Like you I was frustrated with my hair & they really did make a difference.

these are the ones I have and I can highly recommend them!

They’re absolutely tiny and still only £10!
Thanks Chascat, ive just looked at those straighteners. Are they micro ones?. They are reasonably priced too. The ones on the Cloud Nine site are £55 which i think is expensive if they are only going to be used a short period of time. I bought some Toni and guy straighteners and they were thin ones but they were rubbish. They didnt seem hot enough. I am now using my GHD’s but they are far too wide for my hair. xxx
