I am on 5th Cycle of FEC-T and will be having Mastectomy after 6th. No one has given me any information about the process from now until the operation or even when I will meet the surgeon. I have no appointments scheduled and the lack of information is disappointing
As I had chemo first I have no dedicated breast cancer nurse - when I was diagnosed I was told to call any nurse - phone just rings out if you try call…
Any advice would be good
Hi minniem
First of all a big hug to you - I hope the rest of chemo is as kind as possible to you.
I too had chemo then mastectomy, so I hope I can help a little. My operation was 5 weeks after my 6th chemo injection, then radiotherapy was about 5 weeks after the operation. I believe there are guidelines about how quickly they like to operate after chemo and then do radiotherapy.
I’m sure plans will be in place already for your operation, but it would be good for you to find out. How frustrating about the BCN phone line, as that is usually a good starting point. What about calling your oncologist or asking when you next see him/her? Or speak to the chemo nurses, who will have seen lots of ladies go through the process and should be able to advise. It’s not helpful for you not to know what will happen next or when. I seem to remember that half way through my chemo my oncologist asked me to make an appointment to see the surgeon.
I’m more than happy to discuss/answer any more questions if I can. All the very best to you.
Evie xx
