Hi,
I don’t know what chemo you will have, I had 4x fec and 4x tax. back in 06. I didn’t have many problems with fec mainly constipation but you will get different drugs to help you. The tax was a slightly different ballgame, I felt like I had the flu, but it didn’t last all the time, just the first couple of days. We are all different so keep your chin up. I also used the cold cap throughout my chemo. When it first goes on it is extremely cold and I did get a few headaches but not too terrible. it then gradually warms up with your own body heat just before they put they put another one on! It worked for me, I had my hair cut shorter and it really just thinned. I think it depends on your hair type as well. Anyway, good luck and let us know how you’re doing,
Best wishesxxxx
Dear Siani
Welcome to the discussion forums, you can access recent threads on the cold cap which may be of interest, just type cold cap into the search facility at the top of the page and click on ‘topics’, this will allow you to read some useful discussions.
In addition Breast Cancer Care have published a Resource Pack, it has been designed for anyone newly diagnosed with information to help you better understand your diagnosis, test results and various treatments, it is available via the following link or by contacting the helpline: breastcancercare.org.uk//content.php?page_id=7514
I hope you find this of help

Hi Siani,
If you look up a thread on this site called advice needed on the cold cap you will be able to see different peoples experiences, including my own, regarding using the cold cap.
There are also quite a few of use posting on another thread called anyone starting chemotherapy. Some of us are further on in our treatment and some are just starting chemo. We are all on different types of chemo and you may find some peoples experiences helpful and you are more than welcome to join us on this thread. Just remember that everyone is different and will experience different things.
Hope this helps Deb xx
Hi Siani
I am due to have my 2nd chemo session on Wednesday, my onc went through the worst cases of side effects that I could have but so far all I have had from the 1st one is I have had so far feeling nausea, constipation, slight heartburn, headache, furry and horrible taste in my mouth most of these only lasted for 5 days. I havent had the cold cap, but true to prediction my scalp is sore and my hair is falling out so I am due at the hairdressers today to have it all shaved off.
I have also picked up lots of good tips and advice from one of the treads about chemo. For me these have been positive and the ones that I have used do work.
But as Debbie says everyone is different and will experience different things.
Good luck
Sharon
Hi Siani, I’ve bumped up the chemo top tips thread for you. I’ve had one lot of chemo so far. I tried the cold cap it and felt very very cold. Almost unbearable for me for the first couple of minutes, then just about tolerable.
