Chesterfield

Chesterfield Hi to everyone,
I would like to know if there is anyone out there who has had reconstructions at Chesterfield Royal hospital or Sheffield Hallamshire hospital. I’m interested in the Latissimus Dorsi reconstruction but as this is a new procedure at Chesterfield I would like to find out what other people think about their surgery.
Any comment greatly appreciated, thanks,
Beryl

Sheffield Hi,

I have not had the operation at Hallamshire but i had all my chemo at Weston Park and whilst i was there heard very good comments about Hallamshire from various people about their varying operations. A couple of the nurses had previously worked at Hallamshire and were telling me that if i wasn’t happy with my surgeon in Doncaster when i saw them i should definately contact Hallamshire as they were really really good. I think the majority of Weston Park patients have their ops done in Hallamshire and if they are anything like Weston Park you’d be in good hands.

Hope all goes well for you.

Sheffield Hi Beryl,
I’m half way through delayed reconstruction after mastectomy and I’m under Prof Reed at the Hallamshire. I’m having implant only reconstruction and I had my tissue expander put in January. Everything is going well so far. Anything you want to know please feel free to ask.

Hi Beryl

My wife had a LD reconstruction about five weeks ago. She is also a nurse in theatres there as well! She is under the care of Miss Azmy. The results have been excellent and she has had few problems to date. Miss Azmy was recommended by her oncologist (Kash Puruit) and was very professional.
The only problem (more inconvenience) is that she has seroma at the site of her scar on her back. Other than that it has been plain sailing! The operation took about 6 hours and she was back on Chatsworth Suite and ok for visitor 30 minutes later! If you are using the NHS the waiting list is about three months.
All in all, my wife would not hesitate in having it done, knowing what she knows now. From a mans point of view the results even this early look good. We live in Chesterfield and she has already convinced one of my work colleagues (5 yrs post mastectomy) that she should have it done. If you want a flash of the results I am sure she will be more than willing. I hope this was helpful

To KayLou Many thanks it’s good to know. All the best to you. Beryl

To Vernon Hi Vernon many thanks for most welcome reply.I live 5 miles from Chesterfield and am seeing Miss Azmay on 20th April re LD reconstruction. I’d love to speak to you both as I have alot of questions and I’d love to see the results as I will be having both sides done. Would it be possile to get in touch via the breast care nurse as I really think it would be helpful to talk to someone who has had the same surgeon. I don’t know how to get any details on here or even if it’s allowed. All the best to you both. look forward to speaking to you if possible. Beryl
