Hi all,
I’ve just been reading up on having the chills, I have been on Tamixifen for a couple of years now, but the chills only started about 2 mths ago.
I wish I hadnt researched it now as I’ve got my knickers in a twist now and starting to fret big time. I’ve been so positive throughout my BC journey and this is the first time that I’ve felt nervous about secondaries.
Please can anyone help to allay my fears?
Thank you & big hugs to all.

I have been on femara for only around 4 months and I have started getting chills especially at night. My oncologist said that it was a counter reaction to the flushes and quite common so tamoxifen might do the same thing.
Yuppie, get those too. I was never very good at temperature regulation pre BC but now my thermostat is completely broken. It’s a real pain to wake up under 2 duvets feeling frozen then wake again half an hour later boiling hot.
I don’t think it has anything to do with secondaries at all. Just a broken thermostat.
Hi ChoccieMuffin, I’ve been on tamoxifen for just over a year and I too get chills and then I’m boiling, the heating is on and off all day lol xx
I am on Arimidex and ongoing Herceptin (which finishes this week!) and I have my faithful fluffy blanket! I get chills my feet take ages to warm up them I end up throwing if off as I then get too hot! I think any hormone related tabs as cm says breaks your thermostat!!! Night time is a nightmare covers on covers off!!! So no you aren’t alone. xxx
Another one with major chills here and while I do have multiple secondaries, I’ve been assured by my onc that it is the Tamoxifen rather than anything to do with the mets.
Thank goodness for the freezer cabinets in supermarkets which I often lurk around while having a hot flush! Now if only I could find a hot cabinet to rush to LOL!
Horrible horrible chills, I was told it was Herceptin that was causing the chills, I’m exactly the same as you Emmy one minute I’m freezing with shivers inside all over the next I’m boiling hot, the hot flushes have subsided for me at the moment due to taking Clonidine which is fantastic drug and has reduced the hot flushes considerably, just go to your GP for this one.
I have started to take paracetamol or some form of pain killer when I get those chills and that seems to help.
Love and light to all

Another one with a broken thermostat due to Arimidex! It has to be that as Ive never had problems before. Who would think that tiny little white tablet could cause so much hassle in your body!

hi all
Heres a theory for you.
Before i was diagnosed with BC i was cold all the time to the extent of having my electric blanket on and 3 duvets in the height of summer.
Also sitting watching TV i have a 13tog wrapped around me, this was all befoe BC.
Now have been on tamox 2 months and iam colder now than ever.
My theory is that the chills have something to do with oestrogen imbalance, dont ask me what!
You can send me my nobel prize now. xxxxx
Thank you everyone, I definitely feel reassured that it’s par for the course and not something more sinister,
I love this site, not sure what we would all do without it.
Thanks and big hugs to all.

another one here - I’m on Femara. Night sweats and then chills. Particularly in the 48 hours after I’ve had Alendronic Acid. But then I’ve always had a faulty thermostat, and been intolerant of extreme of temperatures.
Hi girls, bit concerned since I get boiling hot flushes and chills but just finished EPI and due to start CMF on Tues if can get rid of the dreaded mucositis that keeps recuurring love to all x
Hi all.
I was chatting with a BC research nurse whilst waiting for a doctor. She was telling me that she was menopausal and suffering terribly with hot and cold flushes, and that hormone therapies also cause this - and often exaggerate them. (She didn’t jusdt randomly offer that information! We were discussing whether I would need Zoladex after all as my. previously regular, periods seem to have stopped and I wasn’t sure if it was a SE of rads!)
Hope that helps! Chris.
