Hello everyone,
I’m 26 years old with no bc history in my family. Last week when performing a self breast examination I noticed that when I squeeze my nipple a tiny amount of clear sticky fluid comes out and I mean the smallest drop. It appears to be coming from one duct and one breast only. I have no other symptoms and it only happens when I squeeze. I’m due my period next week so I’m not sure if it’s hormonal. Should I be worried about this? I have anxiety and panic attacks after being sexually abused as a teen and it makes the idea of going to the doctor for a breast examination a very big and scary deal for me!
Hi Worrywart, it’s really great that you are checking your breasts and therefore able to spot changes quickly. Most changes aren’t serious but should be checked out by a GP so that any problems can be ruled out.
I’m so sad to hear that you were sexually abused as a teen. Please don’t let the abuser stop you from getting yourself checked. Can you ask for a female doctor at your surgery? I would tell the doctor how and why you are afraid because im sure they will be extra sensitive. If you are still unsure about going, perhaps you could get some advice from the really helpful nurses on the BCC helpline on this website?
Big hugs X
Hi Worrywart
Thank you so much for sharing your fears and anxiety here, it is good to see you have already received support. In relation to your abuse their is a really great organisation called Survivors Trust UK which offers all kinds of help and support.
It is important that you go to your GP with any concerns regarding breast changes, but if it would help, could you consider taking someone you trust with you? Many survivors find that helpful to manage anxiety in situations such as this.
Also, please do give our Helpline a call, 0808 800 6000. Please click on the link for all details of opening times.
Do continue to post on the Forum for support as well, we really do have a fabulous community.
Best wishes
