Hi
Can anyone offer any experience with regard anterior wall skin margins please on histology post wide local excision.
My lymph nodes and other margins are good but yesterday told the skin margins on anterior wall resection where ‘close’
Can anyone offer insight as to what management and success of management this may imply?
I’m gutted that essentially every thing else was something positive in the news front but I’ve been left now for a week to ponder what these close margins may imply.
Thank you
Hello helen3
Thanks for posting. It’s good to read that your lymph nodes were unaffected, and apart from the anterior margin the others were good.
You may find it helpful to read our information on how to understand and interpret your pathology report. This explains the relevance and importance of other factors that are taken into account when deciding any further treatment.
The NICE guidelines also have some information about margins required after surgery, although these only refer to the radial margin. Less is known about the best management of the anterior margin if the results indicate this is close. The best people to talk to about what this may imply in your situation would be your treatment team. They will recommend any further treatment based on this, and the other features of your breast cancer. It sounds from your post that you will have the opportunity to speak to your treatment team in a week’s time.
