Hello all, i have never posted on the forum before, but my appointment is tomorrow and i am suddenly feeling anxious and a bit sick. I haven’t told anyone about it so just getting my feelings down here to get them out really.
I had a mammogram and ultrasound in November after breast ache and then discovering a dimple (like an area had been pushed in) under my nipple which was fine, no concerns. Since then the ache is now a constant dull pain with occasional sharp twinges through my nipple and into my arm pit, with an indent above the nipple which appeared about 8 weeks ago; I put off going to the GP about it due to November check, pain increased and indent more pronounced so saw GP 3 weeks ago who thinks indent links to the under nipple dimple, and she can also feel a mass quite deep in the breast.
I have been OK until today, but this morning i am a jiddery mess. Surely it can’t be anything ominous given the November appointment (and this is why i haven’t shared with anyone as i don’t want to cause worry again)? On one hand I feel a bit of a fraud and like i am wasting time. On the other I feel nervous and uneasy. No point to this really, just wanted to share with someone who might be able to relate to the strange feeling.
Hello , so sorry to hear you are keeping this all to yourself that must be so hard .
You mentioned that you have a clinic appointment tomorrow is that for scans and biopsy. I am wishing it all goes well for you .Maybe you could give one of the nurse a call on here . I expect you have lots of questions. Write them down and take with you tomorrow also .
sending big hugs x
Hi @Supernova - I also wanted to welcome you to this lovely forum and send hugs and strength to you for your appointment tomorrow. It’s really good that you found this forum and have somewhere to offload and share your fears and thoughts. This is such a safe place to talk, everyone understands how you are feeling without you needing to explain. I had treatment about 4 years ago, and I can very much relate to your fears of going for a check - I feel that way every time I have to go for another check up.
I’m sure your GP told you that there can be many different reasons for breast changes, most are benign/harmless, but GPs always want to be 100% sure which is why they usually send us to the breast clinic. You shouldn’t feel like a fraud though, your GP wouldn’t have referred you if she didn’t think it needed a second opinion - but this doesn’t mean she thinks it is sinister.
I agree with @Flower123 ’s advice to take along a notebook with questions you want to ask, and also to make a note of the answers. I found that if I didn’t do that I would come out of the appointment and have totally forgotten what my doctor had said. Maybe also take along some paracetamol in case they have to do a biopsy - they will numb the area, but afterwards it can be a bit tender. Also take something easy to read with you in case you have to wait.
Please do come back and let us know how you get on. We will all be with you virtually tomorrow, and hoping that you get the reassurance you are looking for. Evie xx
