i rang for appointment my doc wants me seen by the 12 of this july got told there is no appointments till the 13 to wait till they either write to me or phone me i just want to know what is going on and get sorted out but looks like got to wait longer
Welcome to the waiting room. Waiting for appts, waiting for results, waiting for treatment. I think the NHS guidelines are that you should be seen within 2 weeks of a referral. I hope you are going to a one-stop breast clinic where you get your tests and see a doctor all on the same day. They can give you a pretty good idea on the day what they think they are dealing with.
I hope you turn out to have a benign, in the mean time deep breathes.
did your doctor tell you that he was making an urgent referral?? if he did then they have to see you in two weeks. why dont ring the doctors, see if the referal has gone off and see if it was urgent.
I think the keep some appointments to one side for the doctor referals. they are probably not allowed to make appointments till they get his letter. I find out when the letter was posted and then wait a couple of days and ring the clinic again.
the next two weeks are going to seem so long for you. you could find out from the hospital what facilities they offer. Some only do the consultation and you have to go back for scans if needed. some have the mammogramms and ultrasound and can take other tests all on the same day and then you go back a week later to get the results. some are so advanced they can even give you the results on the same day. Its a bit of a post code lottery. So it might be good for you to find out what you are going to get.
and you might want to start thinking about who if anyone you are going to take with you. For a start you spend hours there so it is good to have company. But if it does turn out you need some further test it is a good idea to have an extra pair of ears to take in exactly what they say and perhaps to even ask questions for you.
I am sure your doctor told you that 9 out of 10 breast changes turn out to be benign.
come on here with any sort of question, no matter what–everyone remember how nerve racking those first few weeks were.
hi thanks for the reply yes it has been sent of got to be seen by the 12 of this month but they got no appointments they r going to ring me next week or send me a letter see if they get cancelation as it is under the 2 weeks urgent appointment that i have been sent for
hi
as has been said, the waiting is the worst part and 2 weeks is the general rule.
you will be feeling naturally anxious to know whete you stand. It might help (to make you feel more in control whilst waiting) to see if it is a ‘one stop’ clinic and what they will do. if it is you may have more than one test that day rather than making another appt. this is obviously the best way, but you will still need to wait another 2 weeks for the results.
it is really, really hard, but it will pass.
and try to remember that most referrals lead to nothing - most lumps arent cancer.
Hi thanks it is because my nipple is inverting and a little swelling on right breast and pain under armpit on left side that’s why they have sent for urgent referral that’s why doc wants me seen by the 12 but don’t think that’s going to happern
