Clinical trials

I am about to start a clinical trial on Tuesday and I am, if I am honest, scared stiff as to what will be expected of me, let alone how I will respond to the drugs.  Has anyone else out there done any form of clinical trial and can share their experience with me.

I am always afraid of the unknown but this sort of unknown which is kind of my last hope at attacking my tumours is frightening to stay the least. I have been lucky up until now that all my chemos and hormone drugs have worked and had little side effects until I went Everolimus, then things changed.

I have a primary cancer of the breast with secondary cancers of the spine, liver and lungs. The main cancer is my secondary bone cancer, so God willing, this trial will help zap the little darlings into touch!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be gratefully received.

Not having a great day today due to one thing and another and the hospital asking last m inute things of me.

Cookie - thanks for listening!!

Hi Cookie,

I started a clinical trial in March this year and was also nervous about it but it hasn’t been too bad at all. I did eventually get taken off the trial drug because of the side effects (itchy rash and swollen legs) but I got some good quality months on it and at the moment I am glad to have taken part. I also felt well looked after on it with regular checks and scans and a contact person to call or email with any queries. I hope this trial works out well for you.

Hi cookie, cant speak from experience but I too am going down the trial route at the moment. It is scary isn’t it but i’ll try anything as i’m sure you will to stave this hideous disease off. Keep us posted…good luck.x
