Clonidine for hot flushes

I am interested to hear from anyone with experience of taking this drug to ease hot flushes.
I have been taking tamoxifen for a year now and my hot flushes have gotten worse in the last month or so. I can’t cope with them anymore:(

Hi Molliana,

I am currently not on Clondind, but am aware that some doctors prescribe them to try and help with hot flushes, when they start to affect or daily lives. Having done some research, it does not seem to work for everyone though.

This is more information about the drug -

QUOTE - Clonidine is a medication used to treat high blood pressure, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorders, withdrawal, migraine, menopausal flushing, diarrhea, and certain pain conditions. - END QUOTE

QUOTE -

Common clonidine side effects may include:

drowsiness, dizziness;
feeling tired or irritable;
dry mouth, loss of appetite;
constipation;
dry eyes, contact lens discomfort; or
sleep problems (insomnia), nightmares. - END QUOTE

Many of the natural supplements, such as Black Cohosh, Red Clover, etc. cannot be taken by us, if we have had an ER+ diagnosis.

However, there is still sage - either as sage tea or sage tablets. Sage tablets can be bought via the internet, just make sure you find a reputable supplier or manufacturer. They will be cheaper that way.

Thank you for your reply. I wouldn’t take sage for the same reason as the other supplements you have mentioned! It is no different.

You are welcome. Just bought some Magicool from boots which has helped! :slight_smile:

Hi,

       I have been on clonidine for 2 years now to help with the flushes which became unbearable, I have found that it does help but only if taken regulary and at the same time roughly each day , my flushes have decreased by about 70% and I probably only have a few bad ones a day now unless its extremely hot or humid, certainly worth trying

Good luck
