I am going on a family holiday to southern spain in June. My children and female relatives have all seen me in night clothes without my prosthesis and I want to be able to wear loose fitting comfy clothes in this hot climate. The problem is I feel very uncomfortable about my son’s and brother in law seeing me with 1 boob.
Part of me feels angry with myself for feeling like this, but it’s all down to self image and confidence which is still flying very low at present, 18 mths after mastectomy.
I suppose what I’m asking is have any of you kind ladies got any tips or ideas. I have 2 proper costums with pockets in, but am thinking in the clothes line.
Thanks
Irene
Hi Irene, its 18 months for me too. When I go on holiday I have had to accept no strappy tops for me. I know what you mean about feeling unable to be seen without the prosthesis - there is no way I would be seen in public without mine. As you say it is a confidence thing.
Hope you enjoy your holiday.

my thread should read son’s in law and brother in law, my sons are cool and have seen me wearing clothes with 1 boob since their first visit to me in hosp.
Just been doing some retail therapy! Have spent far too much money on 2 strappy tops with bras in them from Amoena who have a sale 15% off these, plus from Nicola Jane, a cotton nightie and lightweight prosthesis to fit it. Thinking I could just walk out onto terrace for morning coffee in this?!
If the prosthesis is comfy, may buy another for cossy only £9.50.
Any other ideas appreciated though.

Hi Irene,
I’m going to recommend a seriously good suncream.
It’s called Lemonoil (carrot sun milk) and is manufactured in Spain. Don’t be put off by the name - it isn’t some sort of complementary therapy; the name probably just sounds exotic to Spaniards.
I first came across it in Portugal but I’ve seen it in Cornwall where surfers use it. I think that maybe Spanish suncream regulations are more stringent than UK ones. Certainly when it says water resistant on the bottle it means it. I used it when snorkelling in Tobago (15 degrees above the equator). I used it again when swimming in Kenya (actually on the equator).
It isn’t a substitute for sensible sun behaviour but it really is the best stuff I’ve come across. An added advantage is that it feels nice and soaks in well without feeling greasy.
I obtain it from www.colvininternational.com
Its worth checking out.
Best wishes,
Sue
