Looking for advice on covering holding patches so I can continue with cold cap.
My hair is thinning at the front and it was suggested to cover it with gauze or some surgical cap before putting on the Pac-Man cold cap. Anyone tried this? What did you use to cover the bolding patches ?
Other than the front the cold cap is very good, tolerable and works well
Hi, I done a session with cancer hair care and they recommend a surgical cap rather than gauze as gauze can move when you’re putting the cold cap on so the surgical cap is better for protection and also effective for allowing the cool cap to do its thing too. I use surgical caps I got from Amazon and they really do help:
My hospital didn’t have any in their chemo ward so I bought the pack and handed in the unused ones to the ward for other people to use in case they got caught short/didnt get them in on time etc. The ward accepted them and were grateful for it so worth doing👌🏻
Hi Belle
Thank you so much for your prompt and very useful reply. This is just what I needed . I will try the surgical cap. Phew. My chemo nurses were trying to persuade me to stop the cold cap but I had hoped there’s something to help continue its use as I still have lots of hair elsewhere on my head and the thinning patches don’t bother me other than not wanting them burned by the cold. Really happy with your link too.
Did you also still wear a headband when using the surgical cap for extra protection of forehead?
I am also thinking about a haircut to cut some length at the back where it has grown a lot. But wondering how to have this done carefully by a hairdresser. I am reading the advice on cancerhaircare which makes sense. Have you any experience with this?
Oh really good to give your extra caps to the chemo team. They didn’t have any here (and didn’t know about them) nor did the cancer information centre at my hospital thought they were keen to hear if I found out more.
