hi just read a post that a lady didnt have the cold cap because she had highlights in. I want to try the cold cap and was going to have highlights put in before treatment daft i know but living in hope that i may keep some hair is this not advisable and just have it cut Gill
Hi Gill. I had highlights and used the cold cap without a problem
thanks once more Mac hope your feeling bit better today x
Hi Gill,
I had my highlights redone just prior to chemo and used the cold cap. Did keep a large amount of hair but I wished that I hadn’t had the highlights done because the hightlighted hair became very dry and brittle and some of it broke off half way down the hair.
Always used loads of conditioner etc. The hair with old highlights or no highlights fared much better. This is just my experience. Still kept my hair though. Good luck with yours. By the way I wouldn’t have it cut because even with the cold cap you WILL still shed some hair. Sometimes little baldy patches occur but these can easily be disguised with a creative comb over which is not so easy with very short hair.

I’d always had highlights before I was diagnosed, but actually dyed my hair back to ita natural cockpit before I started the cold cap to minimise roots. You’ll have 5 months of growth during the cold cap - and then you’re meant to wait another 6 months before dying it (I only waited about 6 weeks!) - so that’s quite a lot of growth…
