Cold cap regrowth

Looking for advice/experience from ladies who cold capped. I have had some success keeping a fair covering (though thin and a bit patchy)and was feeling chuffed I’d persevered. Now some two months later I’ve got new growth of about an inch of thick grey/brown fluff poking through my chin length bob, all sticking up and looking like extreme back combing! I feel like just having it all buzzed to about an inch but that would defeat the objective of cold capping! How did you manage through the mismatch stage?

Hello
Firstly congratulations on staying with the cold capping during your treatments

I did this last summer ( chemotherapy was from May - August 2023)

I have a fabulous hair dresser who guided me throughout plus i looked at the cancer hair care site & rang them for advice and also once chemotherapy finished started using Watermans serum and shampoo. I have used Tropic hair feast conditioner for many years and continued with this as I love its smell and quality

For several weeks after chemotherapy finished i was still shedding hair but had no bald patches just thinner hair it was still shoulder length at this point but because the hair loss was still happening and mentally it was upsetting/ constant reminder i decided in consultation with my lovely hairdresser to have it cut to a bob

After 3 months I had it coloured again and continued with the serum, shampoo, conditioner twice a week ( no hair dryer)

I used turbans, scarves, hats and wired hairbands throughout treatments and for several months after ( some given to me from Look Good Feel Better and Headwrappers charities and some i made or bought)

Now almost a year after chemotherapy my bonce is back, thicker with curls at the ends and growing stronger every month

Good luck x

Hi @jooliepie30

I cold capped and kept most of my hair with two small patches above my ears and thinning. Personally I cut my bob into a pixie as my oncologist thought I would probably loose most of my hair and shorter hair was easier to manage and you ‘see’ less loss than longer hair. I’m now 7 months post chemo and have regrowth that is slightly frizzy. I am growing my hair back to a bob and my hairdresser is leaving the top longer and trimming the sides short. I use Philip Kingsley Elasticiser as it strengthens hair and find using styling products like Percy and Reed WonderBalm helps with the frizz. I also use Percy and Reed Wonder and scalp shampoo and conditioner as well as their scalp concentrate.

I looked at www.coldcap.com Paxman website with loads of information as well as www.cancerhaircare.co.uk who is Jasmin who also works with www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk.

Jasmin and her team from cancer hair care will answer individual questions and recommend tried and tested products.

Hope this helps :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
