Hi there,
Due to start 2nd lot of chemo in the next couple of weeks - had FECT which finished july 2009, but have a recurrence and due to get 6-8 taxotere. Lost my hair last time with FEC and it grew v little on tax, didn’t use cold cap. Toook forever to get a decent head of hair, 8 months plus, and really don’t know if I can face that again but really don’t know enough about the cold cap.
I really don’t like the cold and the thought of my head being that cold seems a step too far, just to keep hair. Would rather lose the lot again than have that fluff, or bald patches - it grew back in the pattern of male balding last time!
I’m just so unsure. Was flicking thro the few photos I have, and do hate the thought of being bald again. Just don’t know whats best… Any advice would be fab. Thanks x
Hi I’ve pm’d you
Hi there. Not sure if it’ll help but why not try the cold cap again? I had 8 chemos and had the cold cap every time. Banging headaches for the first couple each time and then it was just a matter of mind over matter. My hair became very think but it enabled me to have a kind of pony tail so I could wear a baseball cap and people didn’t know as it looked like I still had my hair. Another tip is don’t wash your hair throughout chemo. I know it sounds awful but I used a dry shampoo which helped as well. Lots of luck and don’t be scared. Susie
My hair is currently growing back along the same male pattern baldness route, how wierd!
I tried the cold cap with my first Chemo but gave up because I basically couldn’t stand not washing it, drying it, straightening it and I was waiting for it to fall out all the time. For that reason I shaved it off before fec2. However, I hot on fine with the cc itself. I took a paracetamol before, and the lorazepam my onc had prescribed for mt anxiety. I’m not sure how much that helped me but I didn’t get a headache at all and tolerated it well. Why not give it a go first time and then decide?
Sorry uou are hAving to go through this again tho:(
vickie
My first time with the cold cap, I kept checking that it was cold enough because it did not hurt at all (I hate the cold!) The first two were fine, but then my veins were playing up and the nasuea I had with FEC was hideous so I had strong associations with the cc and could not face it after that.
It really did work and I did not have to shave my head until after my 6/7th chemo.
