Cold capping and head shaved

Hi everyone!

I have had 2 rounds of EC out of 3 (but could be 4) to be followed by 4 rounds of docetaxel (or possibly 3). For some reason I can’t get a straight answer on the 8 or 6 cycle business.

However on day 20 after my first EC I lost a lot of hair quite rapidly. I managed to do my second EC with cold cap but the hair has still being falling away.

I had a wig styling appt this morning and decided to get it shaved as the hair loss was just becoming too much .

Has anybody got experience of cold capping with a shaved head? I checked Paxman and it says you can wear a thin surgical cap.

My primary concern with cold capping is trying to get the regrowth back especially after the docetaxel although I know it might be too uncomfortable.

Any advice gratefully received x

Hi there, just noticed your question…. I the same worry as lost most of my hair despite cold capping after 2nd of 4 rounds of TC chemo. I also went for the buzz cut as it was so patchy and was also wondering about whether to continue cold capping. I read online in various sources that you could continue if you wore a surgical cap and that there was some evidence it may help with re growth and protect the follicles. I did manage to continue with the cold cap for my last two rounds. . Wasn’t that much more uncomfortable than with hair to be honest. It’s too early to tell whether it has made any difference as only just finished chemo. Thought it was worth persevering cos I was half way through. Might depend on how uncomfortable you find it yourself. Good luck !!
