Collagen after breast cancer

Hi All,

Can someone recommend if it’s safe to take Collagen coffee after going through cancer treatment?

I have been cancer free for over 5 years now. I was triple negative and BRCA1 positive.

I am always so nervous to take anything that could make the cancer go back.

Hi @Lupita,

Many people ask about vitamins, supplements and herbal medicines, as they want to do as much as possible to be healthy following a diagnosis of breast cancer. There is often the belief that these products are safe as they are considered natural.

However, most don’t have to comply with the same regulations or rigorous testing that conventional medicines do. For many products there is a lack of research to support their use, and some can interfere with conventional medicines including cancer treatments.

It’s important to speak to your GP or a pharmacist before taking any supplements.

It’s not possible for us to say if it is safe to take collagen supplements. There is research looking at collagen levels and breast cancer, but it is not clear if this would mean that collagen supplements should be avoided.
