Coloured sleeves?

HI ladies

Does anyone out there know where you can get coloured compression sleeves from? I thought there was a company called something like lymphdiva but cant seem to find it.

Has anyone else suffered with red itchy skin from their sleeve too? I’ve only been wearing it an hour and its murder already.

Love Judy

hello ,ive been on the web page for lymphdivas but cant seem to access the actual info on coloured sleeves. the brown ones are so boring arnt they.mine also give me a rash despite washing them in very mild detergent ,i find if i put cream on my arm before putting on the sleeve it does help, you have to watch for any irritation as this can lead to infection .

Hi Lynn

Thanks for getting back to me. I got my lovely beige one yesterday and took it off after an hour. It made my skin so sore and angry on the webbing bit between the thumb and first finger. Guess I’ll have to get back in touch with BCN on Monday.

I met a nice lady at one of the BCC meetings who told me there are a couple of firms that supply nice cheerful sleeves. Just cant access them grrrrr!

Best wishes Judy x

Just got on the site they spell it lymphedivas…lovely sleeves but sooooooo expensive! Guess I’ll have to put one on my birthday list.

Hi Judy

Is the sleeve that is giving your all the trouble a Medi one? I can’t get on with those, myself; I find the weave too coarse and scratchy and I end up with a red, blotchy skin and weals around my elbow.

Have you tried asking for a prescription for a Haddenhams ‘Venex’ sleeve? They are really light (much better for summer) and smooth, which probably means a bit of compression is missing (but it’s probably better to wear a slightly less compressing sleeve for longer than a marginally more compressing one for just an hour). They are, or were, in the process of being approved for the drug tariff.

They are available in beige (or as I call it ‘diaper brown’), but to be fair, I think it is a nicer shade than the Medi ones. It was also possible (possibly still is) to get white ones for the same price as beige, which meant I had a choice of colours from the NHS.

The sleeves have a silicone band at the top and mine NEVER come down. Their smoothness also makes them a lot less noticeable under clothes.

Haddenham can also supply off-the-shelf navy, black, blue-grey and chocolate colured sleeves although I’m not sure if the NHS will pay for these.

If you can’t get the NHS to supply them, you can order direct from Haddenhams (and pay for them yourself!), but they will want to speak to whoever gives you lymphoedema care to confirm the sizing (this can be a private therapist).

Thank you Bahons 2 thats really useful. Yes my sleeves are the Medi ones. Have left it off all weekend till I can phone the hospital tommorrow, it has made me red raw to the point of nearly bleeding!

Yep, that sounds like Medi! - I’m not sure why they are so popular with the NHS - I presume it’s cost and Medi must be cheaper than the rest. In addition to Haddenham, companies such as Jobst and Juno also make compression sleeves, so there ARE alternatives out there.

Take care won’t you, the last thing you want is an open wound on your bad arm. (How about taking a snap, if you’ve got a digital camera, to show them how badly the Medi sleeve affects your arm?) One set of sleeves I had took the skin clean off both elbows - I was on holiday abroad at the time and had to be put on antibiotics when I got back!

Good luck with the hospital tomorrow. Let us know how you get on>
