Hi whats the recommended time you should wait before colouring your hair after chemo, my hairs is coming back quite dark with a sprinkling of grey (usually mousey brown with a few blonde highlights) but I dont want to risk it falling out again I had my last chemo at the beginning of September and should be starting rads sometime soon, I dont use chemical laden dyes on my hair and have always used the henna blocks from lushwhich are plant based they made your hair thick shiney and in good condition (, my highlights are usually just to the end of my frindge so nothing near my roots or scalp as this is obviously bleach based) I can live without the highlights but would love my hair to feel soft thick ans glossy again . Any advise
I read somewhere that you should wait until 6 months post chemo but I used an off the shelf no-peroxide non-permanent (8 washes) dye at about 4 months post chemo. No problem with hair loss but wasn’t happy with colour so my hairdresser put it right with a semi-permanent colour mix suitable for ‘chemo hair’. No adverse effects…three months on and just about to have it done again. Book a consultation with your hairdresser for the best advice xx
I had my last chemo on the 1st August followed by radio throughout sept. I finally plucked up the courage to colour my hair yesterday, I used holland and barratts, natural with no parabens and it feels great. I only have approx 2cm of growth but it was growing in grey and im only 38 !!!..I am however just so glad to have any hair, I chose a mahogany red colour and think im going to stick with it.
Go for it and let us know how you get on…ps eye lashes also long enough for mascara hooray !!! Xx
I am starting chemo in January, I am wondering will my hair grow back grey all over, I suppose there is no knowing, I have a few grey hairs but not all over, I’m 46 so I guess there will be a very very strong chance it will be white when it grows back. It’s bad enough we have to loose our hair it would be nice if it didn’t grow back grey
I am due to have my last chemo on 29th December, have already had 3 FEC and 2 docetaxel. My hair has already started to grow back and there is definitely a good smattering of white there. My mum measured it tonight and says it is a quarter of an inch which is great news as I was told my hair wouldn’t start to grow until a few weeks after my chemo had ended!
