Anyone got any info on comfortable mx bras that give you a good shape. I have a sport bra by Anita I think it is the irena which is ok but seems to flatten your remaining breast but not the prosethesis. I am waiting to go in for reconstruction but need to renew some of my bras.
Hi Carolyn,
I haven’t tried them, as I’ve had reconstruction now, but I’ve seen some pretty post surgery bras in Matalan for only £6.
They’ve got pockets and look to have some shape to them.
Lara by Amoena is what I wear, I have 2 in pink and one in cream. Non wired but still good shape and with a pocket. amoena-online.co.uk/Lingerie/Everyday-Bras/Lara-raspberry/p-3-4-311/ . They come up quite small though in the back so whereas normally I’d wear a 34, I need a 36 and it’s still not that roomy.
I found the Asda bra flattened my good side, so with my prosthesis I felt very lop-sided and disappointed. Searching and searching since… I’ve found the Mona bra from Amoena to be my solution!
It is very comfortable with wide straps and longer band beneath the cups so it doesn’t ‘roll’ and ride-up on your mastectomy side.
I’ve bought in all 4 colours. It is like a supportive crop top so if it shows under a garment it just looks as if you’re wearing another t-shirt layer underneath. It is unadorned with lace or bows but I like the simplicity of knowing that if it is seen it doesn’t appear like a bra at all!
£29.00 but £2.00 cheaper in Betty and Belle.
Pocketed on both sides.
The best one I have found is the Nicola Jane slightly padded no wiring. No problems with one nipple showing, looks very natural and comes with clear straps for holidays and pockets on both side. On sale at present.
We’ve been approached by a woman who works at a company that provides a service of adding pockets for a prosthesis to be worn with any bra, and we thought it might be useful for you all to have the details.

It depends what size you are. I am a(one week post op)bra fitter. I had one good soft cup bra from where I work but realised I would need a seamfree one because of the position of my wound. I have been fitted with an expander so my boob is a work in progress and looks a bit wonky!! I found exactly what I needed in Debenhams, a lightly padded wirefree smooth cup bra. A twin pack cost just £16 and is blissfully comfortable. Because of the light padding I look almost as good as new in most of my clothes, even V necks. Not so good if you have large breasts, but it does go up to an E cup which is bigger than M+S do in anything but real breastplate jobs!! It’s also quite pretty with slim lace trimmed straps and a range of colours.
