Hi everyone just looking a bit of advice from anyone who had been on zoladex and has came off it. I had my last injection in july is there any side effects coming off it.
Aww, MaryKate, you didn’t get any replies! I have come on here this evening hoping to find someone else who has come off zoladex and what their experiences were.
How soon did periods come back? (if at all)
I had my last 3-month acting injection 12 weeks ago, and have noticed a few symptoms that are typical of my periods starting, but I would be very surprised if they come back this fast! I’ve had a twinge in my tummy like a mini-period pain, I’ve had a spot on my chin (not had any for a long time, and before they were always hormone related) and now have a stonking headache, which used to be a monthly marker that my period would start in the next 12 hours.
I don’t know whether to be thrilled that my periods might be coming back as I would like to have children yet, or worried as it also marks the return of my hormones.
I’ve been on zoladex for pretty much the whole two years since I was diagnosed (it’s been 2 years and 1 week since the start of my treatment!) and am still on tamoxifen.
If anyone has any experience of coming off zoladex, would be fab if you could share.
Cheers

Hi Mary and Flora,
Don’t know how I’ve missed this post initially! Sorry about that.
I came off Zoladex in the middle of August and still haven’t had my period back. I’m now on chemo, so I don’t know whether that has anything to do with it.
My onc did say he was expecting my period to come back but I’ve had no sign of it so far. My cancer is hormonal sensitive and I used to have very bad period, so part of me is quietly happy that it hasn’t returned yet - The side effects of chemo is enough to cope with!
Hope some one else sees this and can shed a bit more light.

I’m older (46) and my periods took about a year to come back after finishing zoladex - but I did have phantom-like periods - all the symptoms but nothing to show for it! I had them for about six months then they stopped again (was having a v stressful time) but suspect they might be gearing up for a reappearance. The first periods were v heavy but they then became lighter… Am not sure this helps!
Thanks both. I think my twinges were probably phantom periods too. I am just so hoping that they do come back and am impatient!!!
I shall keep watching and waiting!!!

mine never stopped while I was having Zoladex and then were regular as clockwork about 6 weeks after, no withdrawal at all - just started to feel like a human being again rather than a dried up old prune!
Good luck with it all!
