Concerns about biopsy

Hi

hope everyone is ok. Just seeing if anyone has had something similar to what I’m dealing with at the moment

basically at the start of January I noticed a lump in my right armpit aswell as some breast changes in my right breast. Thinking it was to do with my monthly cycle I left it and just waited to see what happened. I always check my breasts as my mum and my auntie (my mums sister) have both had breast cancer in the past so I know what’s normal and what’s not. Fast forward a few weeks and the lump was still there and my breast started feeling tight and heavy and looks different to my other one in size. It feels hot to touch and my nipple has been so itchy with lots of spots around it, it feels like the skin has thickened Also been experiencing shooting pains in the breast and neck pain. Also been dealing with extreme tiredness and really itchy skin on the right side of my body (same side as my breast changes and lymph nodes in armpit) .

I went to my GP who examined me and sent me straight for a referral to the breast clinic. My appointment was today so I was examined again by the doctor at the hospital who sent me for an ultrasound straight away. In the ultrasound nothing was said about how my breast was but the radiologist said she wanted to do an ultrasound guided biopsy on the lymph node in my armpit as I actually have 5 raised lymph nodes not just the one. She took 3 samples from my armpit and I’ve now got to wait 2-3 weeks for results: I’m guessing with my family history this is why I’ve had both of these done today. I really don’t know what it could be. I haven’t been given any medication in case of a possible infection and the fact we’ve gone straight for the biopsy makes me concerned they think it’s something more sinister. Just after abit of a chat with anyone who has been through something like this. Thank you!

Hi @ml1993 sorry to hear that you have seen changes and got sent to the breast clinic, but glad you took the steps to he checked.

It is really normal to have a biopsi there and then when having an ultra sound, I have friends who have had cysts that had biopsi’s too. Its good that they do it all in one appointment so that you don’t have to go back in again, almost a one stop shop. I had the ultra sound, and then had to have a manogram and then biopsis’ all in that one appointment.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for your results x

Hi @ml1993 its nice to meet you, though im so sorry though for the circumstances. Its a stressful time. From what I can tell from being here on the forum since last November, multiple biopsies are very common that first appointment. Boobs are so tricky to diagnose. Its my guess with your family history they want to be very thorough and get to the bottom of whats going on. As urgent as this is for you unfortunately it’s going to be a long wait for those results. It’s the worst part of all of this, the unknown. Try to keep yourself distracted, dont prod or poke your boob now. Consider that the property of your doctor until he says otherwise haha. And try not to Google anything af this stage. No doubt with your family experience you know enough, there’s not need to torture yourself more. Until you are told otherwise there’s nothing to suggest you just have some irritated cysts and our lympnodes swell for numerous reasons. I had a biospy on a lympnode that came back negative and it was still negative after they removed it.

Big hugs

Hi @ml1993

Its horrible the waiting, so sending good vibes to you.

As the other ladies have said it is typical procedure at the breast clinic to do ultrasound and sometimes biopsy if they need to know 100% what is going on.

At this stage they don’t know exactly what it is which is why you would not have been given further information.
Biopsies can also find other benign conditions that still need attention as well.

So the fact that you went and made an appointment with the GP who took you seriously and sent you to the clinic is good.

You are going to worry about it so sometimes its best to think about things to do that acts as a sort of comfort blanket around the worry like little walks, guided meditations on youtube and maybe meeting up with friends . Little things to distract you while you are waiting.
