Confused by waiting times

I (53) went to my GP on 1st of June as I noticed a dimple on my left breast. GP referred me to the breast clinic on 2WW and I got an appointment for 21st June.

I had mammogram and ultrasound but the couldn’t find the cause of the dimple, (which I’m still worried about, as a friend who passed away had similar for months before her diagnosis), so the consultant’s plan was to see me again in 4-6 weeks…

I received an appointment letter for 1st September which is a lot longer than the 4-6 weeks the consultant said I was going to be seen.

I left answerphone messages all last week at the breast clinic and no-one got back to me.

I phoned again today and the receptionist seemed to find it amusing (by the giggles) and said the wait was because they have no earlier appointments.

This doesn’t fill me with the greatest of confidence.

Has anyone else had similar experiences and is this normal?

Hi @angeljt sadly in many parts of the country it is normal now. The waiting is always the hardest part even when the appointments are within the 2WW but when they aren’t it’s harder still. Feel free to vent or chat on here for reassurance though as many of us know what it’s like and how it messes with your head. I hope you are somehow able to distract yourself enough that the wait doesn’t drag on too long though and that you get some answers when your appointment does arrive. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
