Hi All,
I had a wide local excision and sentinel nodes op on 7th March
I had a terrible day at the hospital, was my first op ever, I’m 45
I arrived at hospital at 7am, got my bed at 6pm and went to theatre at 8.30pm, no food, no water this was a Friday
on the Saturday I left the hospital, but was given no information, they were very short staffed
I had the radioactive substance and I had the blue dye, however,
I have read on different sites, that if you have nodes removed you have a cut under the arm, I’m very confused because I have no scar there, does this mean they didn’t remove nodes ???
I’m pleased to say I have very little pain from my breast but a lot of aching under my arm !!
I have left 2 messages with the breast care nurses for a call, but no one has got back to me.
Unfortunately for me my consultant is on annual leave so don’t get my results till 1st April.
If anyone can help with the node question I would really appreciate it
Thanks

You sound to have had a terrible time and horrid to have to had to wait until 8.30pm to go theatre. glad you’ve had no pain. re the wound under the arm, I had mastectomy last July and snb at the same time, I was also confused why I had no evidence of a cut, but I was told that if they can get to the nodes though the op site they do. It seems to be normal to be sorer under the arm and most people seem to get numb feelings and /or pins and needles down the back of the arm. I’d try again with the BCNs, and hopefully you will get to speak to someone. Good luck for Tuesday with your results.

Hi there I had a lumpectomy and node removal on March 7th, I have had just one cut to remove both. I have swelling in both the breast and arm and feel like I am going to burst. I also have the burning sensation in my arm like pins and needles and some of my clothes really make my nerve endings hypersensitive and hurt. My sister in law is a physio and she recommended it stroke movements on the area towards your heart and also to try different textures on it like a feather, hot things, cold things and nail file and your nails. All of these are different textures so they help to de-sensitise the area. Sorry to hear your having such a horrid time, I’ve been lucky so far although my stay in hospital was not so great. Good luck for 1st .
