Contraception advise please!

Contraception advise please!

Contraception advise please! Not sure if anyone can give me any advice on this. I am on Zoladex injections and Tamoxifen I have not had a period for 2 years now.

I am due to have my Mirena coil removed this week and was not planning to have another one fitted. I am assuming that it will be impossible for me to get pregnant so was planning not to use any contraception.

Has anyone got any advice/experience on this - am I doing the right thing???

Thanks for your help

Hi
It definately sounds like you are postmenopausal now its been 2 years since last period. My onch says that when I haven’t had a period for 2 years shes classing me a post menopausal but check when you have the coil out that this is so. My husband had a vasectomy before I was diagnosed and now I don’t even feel like doing it, no libido at all, oh the joys of this disease LOL.

When I was considering whether to go for Zoladex injections or an ooph, my onc and the team went through both options with me in a lot of detail and one of the things that really sticks in my mind is that they said I would have to use contraception if I went for the Zoladex option. Unfortunately, though, I can’t remember why… That’ll be my post-menopausal brain, 'cause I opted for the ooph in the end!

I would double-check with your BC nurse or onc team before you get your coil removed. Better safe than sorry!

All the best,

Mel

Thank you Thanks for the replies I did contact my breast cancer nurse who advised me that even with Zoladex injections it was not 100%guarantee that I would not get pregnant - so she advised that we do take extra precautions.

Thanks again to all who have posted.
