Contraceptive implant removal?

I have an expired (many years ago) contraceptive implant in my left arm, is it ok to be left in or should it be removed? I’ve just had a lumpctomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy also on left side so wondering if it is just ok to leave it in forever? I don’t need an alternative contraceptive and just never got round to having it removed.
