Why does the Paxman website say this? I’m on EC and Taxol and my consultant was happy for me to use the cap….? Wondering if I should re check this info? What do you guys think?
I successfully cold capped with Paclitaxel (Taxanes) even though a couple of nurses queried why I bothered as they said it wasn’t successful. At the end of my treatment I showed her my nearly full head of hair, yes it had thinned, I had a lot of hair so it was less noticeable. I also had two small patches above my ears which was covered by my hair.
As far as Paxman site and information you have found, I would contact them. They are really helpful. This link is for the public the Paxmanscalpcooling is for healthcare professionals. I would assume your team have haspd some success on your regime otherwise they wouldn’t have agreed to it.
I checked it with my nurse. She said it’s definitely worth trying and she didn’t know why the website said that! Oh well! I’ll continue giving it a go. It’s great to read your story. My hair is very thick too.
I was on Paclitaxol too and I kept about 50% and it was successful! Best of luck
Amazing news!
I also cold capped with Paclitaxel and I think it worked well for me. I kept a decent amount of my hair, just needed a headband at the front where it went thin. I moved to a different drug afterwards and lost more hair but it was good to keep my hair as long as possible. It also has started growing back pretty fast, which I believe is also a benefit. I had a fuzzy chick-like covering just in time for Easter!
I cold capped on TC and saved about 60% of my hair (lost the hairline & had a bald patch I could hide)
Wide hair bands helped me deal with it
I was back at the unit yesterday for my Zometa and Zoladex and no one was cold capping
I wonder if the odds paxman note online put people off? It also adds time to the infusion period but if your nurse is positive to give it a go, maybe try? X
To be honest I’m doing it mainly for my children? I want to look as normal as possible for them.
In the red dressing gown is after 12 weeks of paclitaxel
In the pink dressing gown is me after 8 weeks of EC
It thinned at the top and some bald patches by my ears but I can cover them . Good luck with it all and my nurse said it’s not all about saving your hair it helps with grow back. I’m glad I used the cold cap it’s a long slog but worth it for me
I was on paclitaxel first then went onto EC it was on the EC the thinning started.
5 weeks after my chemo finished my eyelashes and eyebrows started to be noticeably thicker
I think these are absolutely brilliant results. I would be thrilled with this to be honest. Thanks for sharing! X
I forgot to say before chemo was administered the cap was on for 30min but the health care advised mine was on for 45 mins before chemo administered due to my hair being thick x
I lost hardly any hair cold capping on carboplatin and paclitaxel. Definitely thinning now I’ve had 2 ECs but for me it’s been worth it for 4 months normality for my children (and my confidence)
I agree re the kids. I’ve had two cycles of EC and I’m holding on to my hair so far but I e got two more left…
I’m on my second round and my hair is thinning quite rapidly but no one seems to notice but me. I’m going to continue with the cold cap as I’ve been told it will likely grow back more quickly. One plus is that all the local sparrows seem to have lined their nests with my hair!
