Halfway through my radiotherapy - only 8 more to go! Today I’ve noticed I’ve got cording under my armpit (I did have a total lymph node clearance so there is a scar). Has anyone else experienced this and any tips you can share? Active Against Cancer will look at it once my treatment is finished and asked me to continue with the Breast Cancer Now post surgery exercise.
I feel cording is becoming quite a common side effect from surgery and radiotherapy.
I too had cording, i did continue with the exercises the bc nurse gave me, unfortuntely for me it continued to get worse and travel down the arm, ended up having physio.
In most cases its reported to go with the exercises, just keep doing them for sometime yet, a good 6months, because it can appear to go then come back, if stop to early.
Wishing you well with the remainder of your treatment.
I think it’s always been quite common - my friend had it 10+ years ago and didn’t get a lot of support . In the end she researched what to do on YouTube and sorted it herself though it took her 6 months to get rid of it completely as it flared up again a bit after radiotherapy . I didn’t have cording but had a lot of pulling tight sensation all the way down below my elbow - I was told to do the exercises from the day after surgery to at least 3 months after radiotherapy and 2 years down the line I do a set several days a week . I know it won’t stop people getting cording but some people don’t seem to be being told that they need to keep up the exercises and I don’t know why the importance of it isn’t being emphasized to them when it was to me .
Thank you.
I’ve only just started with it after radiotherapy - have been doing the exercises throughout since surgery. So needless to say I’m pee’d off that it’s finally caught up with me. I’ve got physio booked in for as soon as I finish my radio.
Well I’m sorry that you’ve got it - my other friend who had surgery after me also got it so I guess I’ve been lucky to avoid it . At least you are booked in and I hope it resolves quickly. Xx
