Hi there I had a single mastectomy and reconstruction on 3rd Feb. Am recovering well but the breast nurse to me I had cording on my arm. She’s referred me for physio but that’s not for a few weeks so I wondered if anyone had any tips on anything I can do to help in he meantime? Thanks!
Hi tweety1,
If you can, but take it slow, as youve not long had surgery, aim to walk you hand/arm up the wall, a few times a day this will help with the cording and im sure a stiff shoulder.
Maybe also gently massage the area with some non perfumed cream, couple times aday this will help whilst you wait for your physio. I too had cording after surgery, it helped a great deal.
Wishing you well and hope you dont have to wait too long.
Hi tweety1
There are a number of videos available on the internet demonstrating techniques - very helpful to actually watch what to do. Personally, I found the Australian Jen McKenzie’s videos good. If you do these religiously every day you should be able to get rid. Think it took me about 2 weeks.
Good luck x
Great thank you - I will look them up now!
Hi, while I did the exercises I couldn’t sort it on my own but you can ease the tightness a bit. You have to stetch it by pulling both ends so you don’t have enough hands to ‘pop’ it on your own. Have faith, the physio can sort it, mine was absolutely brilliant and improved it by 90% on first visit! Don’t overdo it while waiting x
