Hi all
I had a breast ultra sound scan and mammogram same afternoon last wed. … This thurs I’m having a core biopsy via ultra sound, consultant said he heeds to prove there is a nodule? Confused me other doctor said it is very small 1mm is this worth doing as I can’t feel the lump but having aching shoulder and swollen arm pit any advice would be appreciated x
Hi Ashleigh, Hugs to you first and I hope you are bearing up.
I agree that your docs should go ahead for the biopsy, a scan alone can never be an ultimate diagnosis, and remember, most breast lumps are benign but if it is something more nasty, then the smaller it is when they find it, the better!!
My lump was nearly 2 cm when It was found, and Ive always wondered if I could have found it sooner.
The core biopsy I had, wasnt too bad, but I had taken a cocodamol beforehand! The local anaesthetic injection, I hardly felt, and the biopsy I did not feel at all. But afterwards I was very bruised and achy for several days, I am quite small chested so the bruise seemed to cover me completely, lol!
I’m glad your docs are investigating thoroughly, leave no stone unturned, as they say.

Hi Ashleigh
I too had a core biopsy done. Ultra sound showed 2 lumps both around 3 cm but neither I nor the breast consultant could feel them.
Like Truddles found that it wasn’t too bad. To be honest I didn’t feel a thing. But the noise!! I would liken it to sounding as if you are being staple gunned to the bed!
Didn’t have any pain after just a bit of tenderness and discomfort.
It’s certainly best to have it done and then know exactly what you’re dealing with.
Best of luck
Anne
I had a core biopsy last Friday. Absolutely terrified I was, I fear needles big time. The local anesthetic was a small pin prick, I felt nothing other than a little pressure. The snap of the biopsy instrument, the doctor warned me about first, as it does make you jump.
I have some bruising, plus an ache under my arm and in my shoulder, but the whole procedure is pure discomfort as opposed to painful. So quick, 10-15 minutes. I was told to keep the dressing on for 48 hours, keep dry for 24. You should be given an after care sheet.
Best of luck.
Thanks all for your helpful advice… Will let you know how it went tomorrow night …as for the noise I’m deaf so luckily I won’t hear any noises lol… I do have advantages … Take care all xx
An update…
Had a letter this morning saying it could be a fibrodenoma measuring 5x 9mm but to have a core biopsy to be sure…
Gosh Ashleigh, you receive letters? I had to make umpteen phone calls to get the results of my FNA, which were inconclusive anyway. So i had to have a core biopsy and the result appointment is on Monday.
They mentioned a “possible” fibroadenoma, measuring 11mm by 4mm.
Well Sommer43 I was impressed with how quick and efficient everything is including the letter, good luck with your results keep me posted take care xx
Hi Ashleigh
I have to concede that although I would have liked a letter, that I have been seen quickly so I shouldn’t really grumble!
Oh I certainly will and you let me know how you get on with yours!
