Core Bipopsy

Hello my grandaughter had a fine needle biopsy couple of weeks ago and got the results last week which were inconclusive so they wanted to do a core biopsy this morning but she wasn’t well enough to go. Her lump in 5cms and they have said it’s not a Fibrodenoma but may be a Heamotoma . She very scared of having the core biopsy, she’s only 18. At her age it’s probably Benign but at least the clinic are being thorough .
Can anybody tell me their experiences of having a core biopsy so I can reassure her. Thank you

Oh what a horrible thing to go through at 18 .I had a core biopsy it was uncomfortable but not painful more a feeling of pressure . I was very bruised afterwards though .BCN info below may give her more of an idea about the different type of biopsies .

Thanks for your reply. I’ve sent her some information over from off here. Yes she thought the other biopsy was painfull enough. Good thing they are being so thorough because they said they don’t normally biopsy at this age

Hiya, I had one about 6 weeks ago. It’s uncomfortable but not painful. The nurses were all really lovely and chatted me through what would happen.

They numbed me up good and proper so I couldn’t feel anything. They got me in position in the mamogram machine. The positioning was the part that took the longest as they need to make sure they have the right area and they had to push and pull me around a bit.

They then inject you and numb you up. Then they do the biopsy. I’d say it feels like a little electric shock. So nothing to bad and it lasts for a second. Makes a clicking noise and is done just like that.

I had minimal bruising after and just felt a bit sore. I wore a wireless bra for a week or so after to bed as that was a bit painful.

More than happy for you and for her to DM me if you want more info or are feeling a bit scared.

Thank you for that. We are hoping she will be able to go through with it.

I was scared too. It’s really scary because it makes it real when you start getting biopsies. So there may be an element of fear of the results maybe as well.

Tell her being brave isn’t about not being scared. It’s about being really scared and still doing it.

She probably feels out of control and overwhelmed at the moment. This is the first thing she can do to take back some
Control. She can decide to do the biopsy. Although scary, it’s a choice she can make that will give her more information.

I would reach out to the nurses they offer great support as well xxx

I love this - so appropriate for so many things - thank you

Hi

I had one last week. It was done using Ultrasound and not a mammogram. The Dr numbed the area well so that was the only bit I felt. The actual core biopsy was just the sound of a click and everything was over in about 5 minutes. The thought of it is much worse than the actual biopsy. She will be fine and the sooner she has it the sooner she knows the results.

Thank you for that. She will be fine. She was just in pain for a couple of days from the needle one

So my Grandaughter had her core biopsy today. They didn’t say anything just took four samples. So very proud of her she was so brave . How long do results normall take to come back?
Thank you

Hi

I had my done on a Thursday and was given results for the following Wednesday afternoon, they had mdt meetings on a Wednesday morning, but it seems every area is different.

This was September 2023.

Hope they aren’t too long with your granddaughters

Xx

Thank you for your reply . They didn’t say much at all. X

Thank you. Just waiting for results now. The lady who did it didn’t say a word at all but from before we know it’s benign. I guess they just have to be thorough

Hospital just called me my grandaughter gets her results tomorrow afternoon. We know it’s benign but will be good to know what it is and wether surgery is an option
