Countdown to results day

Hi, I’ve read so many threads on this site since Thursday last week! I had a recall following a routine mammogram. I’ve had the usual 3D mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies followed by a second mammogram to check the marker was in place.

Where most people talk about staff at the breast clinics giving a cloaked ‘heads up’ that this could be cancer, the staff where I went gave nothing away!

The only two things that were said apart from the processes of the day were the consultant said he couldn’t feel the lump ‘which is a good thing’ and the breast care nurse telling me I must go on my holiday booked for February.

I now have the two week wait where my husband and I are pretending not to panic!

My lump is under 0.5cm (37.5mm) but my mum died of secondary brain cancer and they never found the primary so that’s my main concern.

Has anyone else been to a clinic where they have given nothing away and why is it good that he couldn’t feel the lump?

Thank you xx

Morning, @susaq12

Sorry you have to be here, but welcome!

My hospital was the same and only said they could “see something”. I knew from the length of time I was there and number of tests/people involved, but they wouldn’t say anything until my results were in. When they found another area following MRI they were the same. I asked directly if it was more cancer and was simply told “it’s 50/50” (turned out it wasn’t). They were very tight lipped throughout! They were also incredible and I am so grateful for the care they provided.

I would imagine your consultant said it was a good thing they couldn’t feel your lump as that means it is small therefore caught early. Lumps found by self examination tend to be larger as they often can’t be felt if really small (my main one was 17mm and I couldn’t feel a thing). I know it’s scary, but most early breast cancers can be treated really effectively with good prognosis.

Best of luck with your results and try to enjoy your holiday. x

Thank you for your lovely message. I can’t even contemplate the holiday until I get the results but I’m not going to cancel it either yet.

I’m counting down the days until the results are in - 10 more sleeps!

If it is cancer (and it is still ‘if’), if at all possible, please don’t cancel your holiday! I cancelled one and something else significant I had planned while I was waiting for surgery. Further testing and delays meant I could have done both. If I had to go back the one thing I would change would be to have not allowed cancer to steal those experiences from me. x
