Couple of Q's.

Hiya, I know I should be making phone calls and asking the people involved, but I have a couple of questions. I find it easier to type and read, than make calls right now.
First off. I need to cancel a holiday. I haven’t got a start date for chemo yet, but was told last week, two to three weeks. I’ve emailed Haven holidays and I have to send them a Dr’s certificate. Does that have to come from the surgeon? If it comes from the GP then I know i’ll have to pay for a non NHS service, along with their admin fees, that’s £75 gone. Not a great help.
My GP surgery also tell me they have no flu vaccine available, so i’m a bit stuck there. They have Swine flu available, so I think i’m going to have to discuss it further.
Now this must be the silliest question. How do I prove I have bc? I’ve told my area manager on the phone, and today saw my jobs advertised as tempory vacancies as we agreed. How do they not know i’m pulling a fast one? I need to make an appointment at the bank and ask for a mortgage repayment holiday, so that goes for them too. They can’t just take my word for it, so what do I do now?
Thanks for reading, and ignore me if I sound silly. x

Hi Eltikks,

You shouldn’t need to pay for a sicknote. The hospital can do them (my GP said the hospital would do it) but they didn’t so I asked the GP who just issued it without a question and without any payment being involved x

I guess for most purposes the sick note with a reason for sick leave (ie: mine specifies the type of surgery I was having) would cover you but if not you might ask the hospital for a letter confirming your diagnosis and likely treatment? The BCN should be able to sort out you getting this x

Sorry, I didn’t elaborate. I’m still working. I’m going to go sick when chemo starts so until then, won’t be signed off x

you should be able to get a letter from hospital free of charge just ask secretary to send a copy of letter to gp confirming diagnosis to you aswell . Then you can copy it to send to other places if need be As regards to holiday I was booked to go in June and my chemo started May so instead of cancelling we transfered it to a later date ( sept ) the holiday compant were really understanding when i rang and transfered everything over to new date free of charge and i got to enjoy a well deserved holiday after treatment just when I needed it so it might be worth talking to them too .

I had to cancel a big holiday due to surgery etc and my GP signed the insurance letter no trouble no fee. Hope the same for you…
