Hello. I’ve been invited for my COVID vaccine booster. I’m assuming it’s as a result of having BC as I’ve never been a priority for it previously. I’m torn as to whether or not to get it. I’m not anti vax but since having cancer all I can think is what did I do to my body to cause this. The only two things I put into my body in the last couple of years that were new/different were the vaccine and a change to the contraceptive injection from the pill. I’m hating myself for believing any kind of scaremongering about the rise in young people getting cancer but now I’m one of them. I would imagine if I phone the Nurses I will be told it’s totally safe etc which is expected as they work for the NHS. Just thought I would come on and see if anyone else has any thoughts or known research on the vaccine. I never thought I would be leaning towards not getting a vaccine.
Hi, can I recommend Liz O’Riordan’s book Roadmap to Cancer - the section on what causes cancer gives a great explanation on the (I think 6) mutations(?) needed for a cell to become cancer (I’ve explained that wrong I think!). Anyway, I’m pretty sure you will feel better for reading this whilst worrying what you have done to cause your cancer (which high you haven’t) but also that you will feel happy about having the vaccine then too. It’s on Kindle for a bit of light Easter Monday reading!
Thank you. I keep meaning to download this for a read! I follow her on Instagram and she’s definitely good at dispelling some of the myths xx
You are not alone! I have thought this too many times, but the reply from @floss2 is so helpful - thank you
I’ll tell you what my oncologist told me at my top rated NCI hospital in the US. The vaccine is up to you and they will no longer push it on patients. The reason is because studies have come out linking it to autoimmune issues. There is nothing right now though that definitively links it to cancer. Anyway I have chosen to longer get it. I am not particularly susceptible to covid it seems since the one time I had it I didn’t even know it and have not had it since then. My oncologist was perfectly fine with my decision. I did my due diligence and got it three times and now that it’s been out long enough and we all have built up some antibodies I no longer feel like it’s a requirement to be a good citizen. So do it if you’re scared of getting covid. Don’t if you’re not.
Hi, I had one more since my treatment in 2022 and declined 8 other invites. I’m hearing a link with Astrozenica with people I’ve met during my journey. I’ve decided not to have anymore. Someone in my cancer rehab group has now been told she has a problem with her heart and been told by a consultant it may be linked to the vaccine. I was always for the vaccine in the beginning but I’m a bit concerned now.
Yeah it’s so hard to tell if it’s linked or if we are all just hyper aware of anything foreign being in our bodies isn’t it. I’m glad I haven’t been met with everyone being like don’t be ridiculous get the vaccine, it’s been very measured and reasoned where people have opted not to.
Well for what it’s worth I wouldn’t have another Covid vax if they paid me. I only had one AstraZeneca and I had pains in the back of my calves so declined any others. Two years later I contracted breast cancer and am convinced the two things are linked. No history of breast cancer in my family and I was fit and healthy. Fortunately a routine mammogram detected the small tumour early and it hadn’t spread to the lymphatic system. I had a local wide excision and radiotherapy. Fingers crossed all good 18 months on.
I have heard from so many people who have had either heart problems, are continually ill or sadly have contracted cancer. The impact of the jabs on the immune system appears to be to diminish its ability to fight disease and infection. Of course everyone must make their own minds up but I’ve made up my mind.
Best of luck with your ongoing treatment and sending you a hug xx
